Gennell McClellan Woody, 92, of Fox Rd. Mars Hill is now surrounded by the Glory of God as of Friday, January 07, 2016. She was born on May 1, 1923 in the Upper Laurel community to Jacob and Olive Callahan McClellan. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Charles Woody; sisters; Zelma Thomas, Peggy Whitt; brother, Edward McClellan; grandchildren, Eddie and Susie Woody. Mrs. Woody attended Upper Laurel Baptist Church and was an inspiration to all who knew her, with the spirit in her voice she proudly spread the word of God to all she knew. She possessed a deep love for gardening, bird watching and flowers. Her loving heart, that precious giggle and twinkling blue eyes will be forever in our hearts and memories.
She is survived by a daughter, Dinah Kay Woody Carver (Paul) of Mars Hill, sons, Harold Woody (Debby) of Athens, Alabama and Timothy Charles Woody (Donna) of Mars Hill; sister, Ruby McClellan Mace; seven grandchildren, Chuck Carver, Connie Carver Hall, Lana, Darrell and Phillip Woody, Tracey Kanarr and Robert Zink; eleven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 10, at Upper Laurel Baptist Church. Reverends Junior Hensley, Josh McDevitt and Ken Parker will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Mission Hospital Neurology and John F. Keever Solace Center for care of their loved one.
