Roy Walter Metcalf of 4616 Hwy 23, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at the age of 85. He was born August 25, 1930 in Mars Hill. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bergin Walter and Myrtle Edwards Metcalf.
Roy graduated from Mars Hill High School, Mars Hill College and Appalachian State College. He taught high school math and science at West High School in Ferguson, NC and Franklin High in Franklin, NC. He was a gifted pianist and enjoyed all types of music.
He is survived by his sister Doris Metcalf Carter (Robert Lee) one nephew, David Carter (Sherry), two nieces, Sharon Pelkey of Plumans Lake, CA and Tammy Robinson (Bruce) of Asheville and several great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 29, 2015 at California Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Josh McDevitt officiating. Burial will follow at California Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church.
