Obituary for William Emmitt "Junior" Thomas
William “Junior” Emmitt Thomas Jr.,87, of Mars Hill passed away August 28, 2014 at John F. Keever Solace. Mr. Thomas was the son of the late William Emmitt Thomas Sr. and Sallie Peterson Thomas. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and was a retired truck driver after 35 years of service. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, whom he married in 1953, Elizabeth Hamlin Thomas who passed away on March 9, 2001; brothers, James Carter “J.C.” Thomas (Connie) and Tommie “Ed” Thomas; half-sisters, Vertie Burnette (Bertram), Annie Strange (John), Irene Pringle (Glenn) and Jessie Clark (Buster); half-brothers, Ed (Bonnie), Theron (Ethal), Ratha (Vacie), Vernie Fred and Kenneth Thomas (Kenneth).
Mr. Thomas is survived by a daughter, Selena Thomas of the home; a son Lee Thomas (Karen) of Asheville, two grandchildren Crystal Thomas of Lenoir, NC and Stephanie Thomas of Asheville; four great grandchildren, Ashley, Trevor, Amira and Zeke.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm, Sunday, August 31, at Upper Laurel Baptist Church. Reverend Cline Hensley Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
