Hilda “Faye” Buckner Bates, 90 of Gabriel’s Creek Road, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017. She was a native of Madison County and daughter of the late Vetice Sherman and Pearl Hensley Buckner. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Clifford Bates and sister, Doris Buckner. Faye was a lifelong member of Gabriel’s Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed working with the children in Bible School.
She is survived by her son, Vetice Arthur Bates and wife Pamela; grandchildren, Christina G. Penland (Keith), Joanya G. Bates; great grandchildren, Briana F. Bates, Ella G. Penland and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1:00pm Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Gabriel’s Creek Baptist Church. The Reverends Gary Coates and Dr. Harry Culbertson will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00pm Friday, March 17 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service.
