Dallas Woodard Rice, Feb. 5, 1928- May 12, 2016. Dallas went home to be with our Lord on May 12 2016 in the Brian Center in Weaverville. He was 88. He was a lifelong resident of Madison County and a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He loved to talk about his sawmilling days and loved to work in the garden. He loved gospel singing. His faith in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his family were the most important to him. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Lawson and Texanna Arrington Rice; two sisters Vera Fisher (Carson) and Harriett Ledford (Ed); five brothers, Joe (Amy), Perry (Thelma), Wesley (Bernice), Wiley (Patsy) and Everett (who died while still a baby).
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Robinson Rice; children, Rebecca Hyatt (David), Sheila Franklin (David), Ivan Rice and Rachael Rice, all of Weaverville. He is also survived by his brother Zeke Rice (Nola) of Bee Tree, one grandson, Jonathan Stamey and adopted granddaughter Dakota. Lots of nieces and nephews and extended family in the Brian Center. He adored Eva Hunter, his sister-in-law, his special sister, Elaine Hyatt, and special sisters from Care Partners; Courtney and Cindy. Many thanks to Jeff Hodge, RN.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Reverends Phillip Parker and Ken Parker will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
