Obituary for Ray Jack Chandler

Ray Jack Chandler
Ray J. Chandler, 83, of Sheppard Branch Road, was completely healed of his cancer September 3, 2015 while at his home that he had lived in since 1982. Mr. Chandler was born May 13, 1932 to Mr. Nelson Chandler and Ollie Melissa Jarvis Chandler of Yancey County. He was preceded in death by brother Earl and sisters, Irene and Eloise. Mr. Chandler was a US Air Force veteran and spent most of his working career with Square “D” Company in Asheville and Knightdale, NC. His career spanned 34 years until he retired in 1997 from the Asheville facility. As much as he loved his career and the many friends and coworkers at Square “D”, his real loves were God and his close-knit family that he loved more than anything else on earth. His wish for all of them is that they will come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior as he did.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Jean Sheppard Chandler; daughters, Debra and husband Bill Stroupe, Jackie and husband Dan Edwards of Weaverville; sisters, Linda Maynor (Wade) and Shelby Phillips of Weaverville, grandchildren, Heather, Kimberley, Candace, Jessica, Hannah, Sarah, Lucia, Yannick; great-grandchildren, Aislinn (his special little buddy), Chandler and Amaya, whom he hardly knew but loved very much, several nieces and nephews, brother-in-law, Charles Blankenship of Leicester, and sister-in-law, Betty Chandler of Asheville.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Mt. Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, 291 Sheppard Branch Road, Weaverville. Assisting with the service will be Reverends Mike Thomas and Roger Boone. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends at the church 3 – 5 PM, Saturday, September 5. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Jackie Edwards, 500 Jupiter Road, Weaverville, NC.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Cancer Care of WNC, the 10th floor, and Care Partners of Mission Health Systems for their care, encouragement and personally befriending their husband and dad during this time of surgery and treatments. Many of whom he came to appreciate and think of as personal friends. He also had many caring caregivers during his other visits to the hospital and treatment centers that deserve recognition for their professionalism, caring and constant encouragement during this trying time.
