Irene Metcalf Whitt, 78, of 78 Hamburg Rd went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 19, 2015 after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Gaither and Agnes Honeycutt Metcalf. She is preceded in death by two infant children.
Irene retired from Buncombe County Social Services and resided in Buncombe County for 37 years. She then returned back to Madison County to care for her parents. She was well loved by all her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend to all. She lived her Christian faith daily. She loved her Lord and Savior and it was evident in her love and caring for others.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Vance J. Whitt; sons, Rev. Vince Whitt (Allison) and Randy Whitt (Deborah); 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service with Rev. Ronnie Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at the Anderson Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. All other times the family will be at 78 Hamburg Rd.
