Obituary for Alvin Jurile Slagle

Alvin Jurile Slagle, of 537 Mountain View Road, Mars Hill, age 88, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015. He was the son of the late Glen R. and Bessie Griffin Slagle and a lifelong resident of Madison County. Alvin was a WWII Army Veteran, and a member of the Shriners Club and French Broad Masonic Lodge #292 AF & AM.
He is survived by his wife Ruby Edwards Slagle; daughters, Janet Griffin (Mark) and Teresa Marler (the late Jack Marler); son, Donald Slagle (Sandra); sister, Alda Forrester; grandchildren, Dennis Slagle (Mandy), Robin Griffin, Misty Rodriguez (Ron), Lisa Miller (Shawn), Casey Griffin, Elizabeth Pack (Kenneth), and Ansel Dave Slagle (Cara); and 16 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 18th at Old Bull Creek Baptist Church where Alvin was a member and deacon. Reverends Kenneth Pack and Carl Robinson will be officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by Mars Hill VFW Post #5483 and French Broad Masonic Lodge #292 AF & AM. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Friday in the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. At other times the family will receive friends at 244 Phillips Valley, Mars Hill.
Donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
