Jessie Erlene Jenkins Cartrett Whitt, age 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 19, 2015. Jessie was born on July 30, 1928 and was raised in Madison County NC and lived her whole life in the mountains she so loved. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents John and Eddis Wheeler Jenkins, husband Alton Jerry “Buddy” Cartrett; spouse Deleon “Dick” Whitt, brothers; Jasper, Clay, Edd and Rev. Ebb Jenkins. She was an employee of Micro Switch of Mars Hill for many years. Jessie was a faithful and loyal member of Laurel Chapel Baptist Church where she came to know the Lord and served her whole life.
Jessie is survived by her three sons; Ronnie (Shannon) Cartrett, Alton Cartrett and Mark (Tearesa) Cartrett, all of Mars Hill, NC; three grandchildren, Chris Cartrett, Dirk Cartrett, Heather Cartrett Roberts; and 6 great grandchildren along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was loved by all who were fortunate enough to meet her. Her profound love and devotion to the Lord blessed many.
A funeral service will be held 2:00pm, Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Laurel Chapel Baptist Church. Officiating will be Reverends Danny Jenkins and Cline Hensley, Jr. Burial will follow in the Upper Laurel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 pm Wednesday, January 21, at Laurel Chapel Baptist Church.
