Owen R. Hamlin, 79, of Mars Hill, NC, passed away, November 9, 2014. Mr. Hamlin was the son of the late Emmitt and Lillian Shook Hamlin. Owen is also preceded in death by his wife Barbara Walker Hamlin, sisters Kathleen Edwards, Villa Capps, Mary Ramsey and Ruby Ramsey, brothers, Clarence, Lee and Kelse Hamlin.
Owen is survived by wife, Kathy L. Hamlin; son, Charles Hamlin (Donna), daughter, Linda Ponder (Dewayne), brother, Paul Hamlin, grandchildren, Jason Ponder (Monica), Nathan Ponder, Chris Hamlin (Dusty), Candace Fox (Todd), and the joys of his life, great grandchildren, Taylor Ponder, Asa Fox and Dylan Hamlin.
Mr. Hamlin’s funeral service will be held 1:00pm, Wednesday, November 12 at Upper Laurel Baptist Church with Reverend’s Kermit Ball and Junior Hensley officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00pm prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jason and Nathan Ponder, Chris Hamlin, Todd Fox, Dewayne Hilemon and Carl Ramsey.
A special thanks to the staff of the ICU and Step Down Unit at Memorial Mission Hospital and also to the staff at John F. Keever Solace Center for all the kindness they have shown to our family through our loss.
At other times the family will be at the home of Charles and Donna Hamlin, 380 Little Ivy Church Rd., Mars Hill.
