James Carol Tipton went home to be with the Lord, September 1, 2014, after a long illness. He was born June 9, 1933, in Yancey County to the late Oscar and Mary Elizabeth Tipton. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Rebecca Dingess of Hunting WV. James loved the outdoors and was an avid bear hunter. He was a retired construction worker, a friend to all who knew him, and a great brother.
James is survived by four sisters, Doris Honeycutt of Weaverville, Betty Lanning of Asheville, Ann Howard of Clemson, SC, Juanita Caldwell (Roger) of Hunting WV; brothers, Harold Tipton (Dixie) of Mars Hill, Junior Tipton (Paula) of Dallas, NC, Charles Tipton (Rachel) of Sanford, NC; one brother-in-law Roger Dingess. James left several special nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
A funeral service will be held 7:00pm Thursday, September 4, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. Reverends Cline Hensley Jr. and Rotha Wilson will officiate. The burial will be 10:00am Friday, September 5, at Higgins Family Cemetery, Higgins Branch, Mars Hill. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00pm prior to the service.
At other time the family will be at the home of Doris Honeycutt, 32 Flat Creek School Rd., Weaverville, NC 28787.
