Obituary for George Redding

George  Redding
George Redding, 95 of Mars Hill and formerly of Spencer, NC., passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at Madison Health and Rehab in Mars Hill after several months of declining health. Born August 24, 1918 in Salisbury, NC. Mr. Redding was a son of the late Joseph Walter and Atha Julian Redding. He is also preceded in death by his first wife of 60 years Rachel Brattain Redding (2001), brother Joseph Redding Jr. (1977) and sister Darlene Redding Kluttz (2013).
He was a graduate of Spencer High School, served in the US Marine Corp in WWII and worked as a trainman 42 years at Southern Railroad until he retired in 1979. George enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, reading and his family and grandchildren.
Surviving is his second wife of ten years, Dixie Freeman of Mars Hill, sons; Michael Redding of Fredericksburg, VA and Stephen Redding (Myra) of Pulaski, VA., three grandchildren; Patrick Redding of Spencer, NC, Caitlin Christian of Lynchburg, VA and Candice Redding of Pulaski, VA.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8:00 PM, Monday, April 14, at Blue Ridge Funeral Service. A funeral service and interment will be held later this week in Salisbury, NC.
Memorials may be made to: North Main Baptist Church, 1501 N. Main St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
At other times the family will be at the home of Preston and Ramona Fox on 573 Kelly Hunter Road, Mars Hill, NC.
