A Grandson's "Talk"
Never forget our first "man to man" talk. I was young, he came in grandmas kitchen said "Josh getcha shoes on. I need help in the garden".. ok for people that don't know about pawpaws famous garden... just picture in
your mind a very famous beautiful painting.. with all these
different tones of green and yellow and red. I mean it was a
true work of art. And for him to let me help him with this
work of art. O man, to me this was huge. I mean this was up
there with dad teaching me how to trout fish. Well long story
short he said, "Josh I need a row of potatoes dug." I looked at
him, and said yes sir of course. By this time I was about to
bust with excitement. I started digging and I did't stop until
I ran out of potatoes to dig. OK keep in mind he said only said one row. I was so happy to be helping him in his work of art that kinda forgot about that last part lol... But pawpaw being pawpaw never, raised his voice never got mad about it. He looked at me smiling ear to ear and said son you just dug ever tater in the whole garden. I was so upset I did't do it right.. I hung my head down as low as it possibly would go without it falling off. He said son look at me if you remember anything I teach you always remember 3 things. #1 Keep the Lord in your life. #2 Don't ever forget where you came from "your family". #3 And always keep that head up .. the past is in the past. Keep looking forward .. he also said joking around you stick with me I'll teach you some stuff. But little did he know that's exactly what I would do .. I stuck right by his side coming up.
If I could only be half the man paw paw was... boy I would be doing good. Love you pawpaw.
